It's a global world nowadays and as 21st century Nigerians, there really is no limit to what we can do even when it may have seemed impossible in the past.

However, times are changing and companies like Amazon are also growing biggger. In the past, there were no Visa/Mastercard in Nigeria but now there are thanks to the growing economy and services that are now available in Nigeria. Visa and Mastercard brands are the payment platforms which American based websites like Amazon normally accept and so as a Nigerian resident, you can pay for anything you want on Amazon except for very few services that still require a US billing address.

As at now, the only limitation I see on shopping on Amazon is neither the issue of geographical location or billing address but it is the shipping address. For issues relating to their police, Amazon.com mostly ships to US states and don't really offer international shipping except for small stuff like DVDs and books. So, for now, Amazon doesn't offer direct shipping to Nigeria yet for most of their products but they can ship things like books and DVDs to Nigeria.

What do you do when you see that laptop or tablet that has just been released or even that Playstation that you want to buy and the price is good but the only problem you have is that Amazon will not ship to you in Nigeria? Well, there is a way round it and I've been using it for several years now.

In order to get access to most of the other good stuff that are sold on Amazon, earth biggest online store, one would need to also make use of a US re-shipping service.

A US re-shipping or mail forwarding service is basically a service that offers you a US shipping address and would receive any goods that you buy from US websites and then ships it to Nigeria for you usinga courier service like DHL or Fedex. You would have to open an account with them and pay them in advance in order to ship it to you. You will also provide them with your Nigerian address suring registration so that when shipping, they would know the Nigerian address they have to ship to.

So, with a US shipping service and a Nigeria issued Visa or Mastercard, there really is no limit to what you can buy on websites like Amazon. The only extra fee you would have to pay for is the final shipping to Nigeria.

I've bought a lot of stuff online at AMazon and these normally includes laptops. I spend around $90 to $100 to ship a laptop to Nigeria besides the price of the laptop which I paid for at Amazon. When you calculate the total costs, it is actually a cheaper way of buying American products online than if you were to buy it locally in Nigeria. Besides, there are lots of stuff I've not been able to see in Nigeria that I've been able to buy at Amazon.

One thing to consider before buying and importing anything from US to Nigeria is to ensure that it is not import prohibited by the Nigerian Custom services. You can check their website first to know the items you should not import.

Things I've bought from Amazon and shipped into Nigeria using DHL includes laptops, memory cards, flash drives, NIke shoes, sneakers, mobile phones, solar panels, computer accessories, ready made clothing, watches, digital cameras, usb cables and so on.

Having an account with Amazon is free as you just need to have an email address. As for a Mastercard, you can get it from any bank in Nigeria and it can be in Naira or US dollar.

Amazon normally delivers to a person's house and don't offer pickups. If it's an item that they can deliver to Nigeria, then they will deliver it directly to you using DHL, Fedex or UPS
