One of the things we now do in Nigeria is pay for electricity in advance rather than in arrears which used to be the old way. More and more electricity consumers in Nigeria are migrating to prepaid electricity billing.

One of the good things about prepaid electricity billing is that it works a bit like the Prepaid GSM billing in which customers only get to pay for the electricity they actually used in KWH rather than a flat monthly fee as was the case in the old post paid billing method.

With the new prepaid billing method, customers would avoid getting cheated by paying for the electricity they didn't consume and the Power company would also be able to easily collect bills and work much better.

Paying for electricity bills using the Prepaid method normally requires that customers purchase a meter token from the PHCN office or from other offline/online vendors and then enter the token/PIN into the specially designed Meters

Steps on how to do it:
======================
- Purchase the prepaid meter token/PIN using your meter number from a seller

- Punch in the token numbers into your prepaid meter by pressing the numeric buttons.

- Press the enter button to submit. Some options don't come with submit button and so loads automatically

- Wait for the meter to accept the new credit load

- The newly loaded credit value will first be displayed and later on the total units will be displayed.

It is so easy to reload your prepaid meter once the units on it have been exhausted. You just need to buy meter tokens/PINs from the PHCN office or online using your meter number and then press in the Token/PIN on your meter and it will be reloaded.

with the new prepaid meter that comes with a keypad it is not easy.You have to go to their office and pay them to collect a code different from the amount you paid for recharging. They are bunch of criminals same people that were in the old NEPA.They locked the meter after installation.They just want to make money off Nigerians. GOD will expose and disgrace those government officials that do not want things to run smoothly in this country

We have difficulty in reactivating power after loading the token. It is very frustrating. Power doesn't come one after several attempts. Don't know whether there is a particular problem responsible for this.
Who do we call?

Depends on the current tariff and any other fees. If the tariff is N15 per unit, then the most you are going to get apart from any other fees would be 200 units.

Since you'e purchased units from your bank, the next step is to take it to your prepaid meter, dial the numbers and press enter so that it will add credit to your meter.
